Customizing QR Codes

Posted March 08, 2011 in General | Comments 2

Quick Response codes were developed by the Japanese Denso corporation as a means of tracking and tagging automotive supplies in the first half of the 1990's, and originally consisted of only 8-bit black and white imprints. Although considerably slow to catch on here in the west, we have seen a subtle increase in the presence of QR codes in advertising over the last couple of years. This new proliferation of 2-D bar codes has included some clever implementations, including a host of new start-up companies that are using the same QR code model to establish their businesses (StickyBits and SpyderLynk come to mind).

Quick Response Codes

Are the codes here to stay? That question has yet to be answered. I've implemented some QR codes with links to mobile landing pages for a couple of client campaigns over the last 24 months, but I haven't noted an increase in demand for the technology. Some might argue that brands aren't as aware of this marketing platform, hence the lack of QR code domination in North American media. I'm more inclined to guess that it is a combination of factors. Brands want message customization, tracking and ROI, so unless there is a robust platform in place to track, measure and deliver the effectiveness of a QR code campaign, we probably won't see the bandwagon reach critical mass.

The inclusion of custom imagery inside the actual code is something I've seen before, however I haven't found any statistical data on the readability of these designs. Most smartphone platforms provide a variety of free applications for QR code scanning, but the elegance and effectiveness of these scanners seems to vary. Some insight into the rigid data structure used to craft QR codes can be read about in detail here. That said, some of the resources listed below provide image and code solutions to 2-D bar codes.

Note: Microsoft has launched their own proprietary system with the ability to include image data. These tags are not QR codes and require a special reader.

I propose not to hold off until you get big sum of money to order all you need! You should take the credit loans or short term loan and feel comfortable

According to my own investigation, billions of people on our planet get the loan from different creditors. So, there’s good chances to find a financial loan in any country.

I take pictures sporadically. Often when I'm at events with my friends. I'm trying to motivate myself to shoot more often. Regardless, stalkers love flickr.
